BRS and I have purchased zero pieces of furniture since moving into our first cozy home.  Filling our humble dwellings are hand-me-downs from our parents and grandparents.  There are even some pieces we’ve carried along since our childhood—like my office chair! A simple white desk chair with a denim seat pad (I got too excited to start the project that I forgot to get a true “before” photo!) was turned into some golden seating that makes a statement in my office.DIY_CHAIR_MAKEOVERTo start this project I had to sand off all of the white paint and finish from the chair.  By “I” I mean BRS, of course. I spent a great deal of time sanding it by hand only to have my sweet husband come home and show me the electric sander.  All of the sudden my past two hours of sanding were a total waste when he showed me I could complete the entire thing in 10 minutes.

IMG_0237 SAND_WOODEN_CHAIROnce the chair was totally sanded it was PRIME TIME.  Literally…it was time to cover the surface of the chair in a good primer.  I wanted to take a shortcut and didn’t think that I needed primer at first, but then when I started to spray the metallic gold onto the chair, it soaked into the wood and had zero metallic shine as you can see below. BRS saved the day (per usual) and covered the chair in primer…and THEN paint!

IMG_0484IMG_0486 IMG_0485After the chair was completely painted, I covered the chair pad in a fun fabric.  I love that as soon as I tire of this fabric, I can switch things up to something fresh without spending a fortune.

To update my entire office set up I also decided to take a little spray paint to the knobs on my desk drawers.

Spring breaks are most certainly appreciated greater as an adult. It’s a fact.

This past week we traveled down to Fort Myers Beach, Florida, did absolutely NOTHING and it was AMAZING.  Well, maybe not “nothing” but we laid around a lot, ate well, played tennis, walked on the beach and played a lot of cards. Oh! And funny thing, my laptop charger sparked and fried and I had a dead laptop for the entire week.  At first I was ticked and then I was like “HELLO FREEDOM”!  It does feel pretty nice to have no excuse but to unplug and focus on being in the moment.

I posted on Twitter about this the other day, but think it warrants some greater attention here as well : Whether you are single, married, have 5 children…You need to budget for vacations and traveling.  BRS and I have had many a conversation about how we wish we had more time and money to travel.  Something I am starting to realize though is that it’s not that we don’t have the time or money, it’s that we don’t always plan or save appropriately for it.  When you set vacation funding as a goal you are treating yourself with something that will last much longer than a Starbucks latte or new blouse.  Travel is so good for the soul.  It gets you away from the mundane and challenges you to try new experiences OR it can present itself as an opportunity for much needed rest and relaxation.

Do you enjoy travel or even just time relaxing at home?  Do you wish you had more time, money, motivation to do so or have you been good about incorporating it into your lifestyle? I’m curious!

My family has always said the items that filled our stockings were some of the most fun items to dig into on Christmas morning.  My mom usually fills my stocking with some fun accessories and beauty products that I’m always so anxious to test out right away!  In this week’s MRS Gift Guide, we’re talking stocking stuffers that would be perfect for mom, sister, sister-in-law or dear friend!  Let’s dig in!MRSgiftguide_stockingstuffers

1) Sephora Brush Set // I’ve become a little bit of a skincare/makeup junky lately as I’ve been so curious to test out new products and find the perfect “face recipe” now that my skin has taken on it’s winter white.  Just as important as the products you apply are the tools you use to apply the products! From eyes, to cheeks, to lips…this brush set will have you covered!

4) Bed Head TIGI Hairspray // I SWEAR by this hairspray…the only aerosol can I’ve allowed in my bathroom for the past 5 years.  Great scent, great flexible hold.  I like to stock up on these items during the annual hairspray sale at Beauty Brands and gift them to my favorite ladies come Christmas!

5) Kate Spade Bow Push Pins // Stocking stuffers are great for those items that some find unnecessary but still totally adore!  While KS push pins aren’t a NEED, they are a perfect small item to up the cute factor in a holiday stocking.
